Why One Man’s Watch Made Me Laugh

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

I find it amusing sometimes to sit and watch human behavior.  This world is filled with people who think that what they have makes them who they are.  I saw a guy today at a stop light wearing diamonds in his ear, diamons on his wrists and diamonds on his neck and he was driving a pretty nice older model car.  I laughed to myself because here is someone with enough ”bling” to rival the sun and yet he drives himself.  With all that extra cash, why not hire a driver.  Come on people can we get our priorities straight.  Don’t go buy expensive jewelry before you put money in the bank.

Maybe it’s just me…

Secure transactions

When you pay for your jewelry, are you going through a secure page? Secure ordering will give you a real level of additional safety when it comes to putting your credit card number online. Whenever you put your credit card numbers down anywhere, look to make sure that the web address reads “https” rather than “http.”

Insured shipping

The more expensive the item that you are purchasing, the more you should think about choosing a site that has an insured carrier.  Getting your jewelry shipped through an insured carrier mitigates the risks and is typically worth the money paid for it, if only in terms of peace of mind.  You will find that this makes lost or damaged items much easier to replace.

Buying jewelry online can be an intensely rewarding experience, and you will find that if you only take the time to find out some key things about your vendor that you will be able to have a risk-free purchasing experience.

How To Buy Jewelry Online (Part 1)

Whenever you buy something online, you will find that you have to do your homework and that you have to make sure that the seller is reliable, but you will find that when you are dealing with something as potential costly and valuable as jewelry that you have to take several more precautions.  Whether you are thinking about looking for good jewelry online or you have a piece that you are considering, there are definitely a few things that you need to keep in mind.

When you are looking at buying your jewelry online, always take the basic precautions and look up the site’s reputation.  Do you personally know anyone who has bought from them in the past, and when you enter their name in a search engine, what kind of results do you get?  For online jewelry buying, remember that you should still trust your gut.  If you are getting a strange feeling about part of the operation in question, take your business elsewhere!

To make sure that you are buying your jewelry as safely as possible when you are looking at an online vendor, there are a few things that you want to look for.

Return policy

Are they willing to take things back, and for how long?  Beware of “re-stocking fees” which can come with a hefty price tag.  For the most part, reputable sites will offer 30 day return policy, and if a site has no policy posted, you will want to give that vendor a pass.

Certification

When you are buying diamonds, remember that you want to make sure that you are going to get a certificate along with it.  You will find that GIA and AGS are two of the top services in the world, although some stores offer certification from other labs or an in house lab.  Certification will not add to the value of the piece that you are buying, but it can reassure you that you are getting the piece that you have been promised.
